Most of the Temagami region is on Crown land and the uncivilized character of the scenery is unique and breathtaking. This glorious wilderness stretching over 8,000 sq. km. includes extensive tracts of old growth red and white pine forests.
These lofty white pines can be over 5 feet in diameter and were just saplings over 500 years ago when Columbus landed in the Americas. There are red pines in Temagami that have a DBH (diameter, breath and height) of over 36 inches and in Ontario trees over 30 inches are very rare. Among these spectacular giants are over 20 species of lovely wild orchids and numerous varieties of wild mushrooms. This area is a naturalists dream.
